EnquireBook a fitting

Bridal planning guide · Brisbane

What to bring to your wedding dress fitting a checklist for the real outfit.

A useful fitting needs more than the gown on its hanger. Shoes, undergarments and separate pieces affect how the dress sits. This checklist helps you prepare the outfit and questions. A confirmed appointment can then focus on the fit you actually plan to wear.

An enquiry requests availability. The work, quote and appointment are confirmed separately.

At a glance

The short answer.

The essentials are your gown, planned shoes and undergarments, plus any separate piece that affects the fit. Bring your dates and a short list of concerns too. Ask about accessories and who may attend when the appointment is confirmed.

01The starting point

Bring the actual wedding shoes.

Heel height and sole thickness affect where a skirt falls. Bring the pair you plan to wear, not only a measurement of the heel. If you intend to change shoes later, explain that too. Ask how the agreed length would work with those plans before the hem is settled.

02Fit & construction

Wear the planned undergarments.

The bra, shapewear or other undergarments you choose can affect the bodice and waist fit. Bring the items you intend to wear. If you are still deciding, ask how that affects the assessment. Do not assume a new cup or tighter seam will solve a change caused by a different undergarment.

03The details

Do not leave separate pieces out.

An overskirt, underskirt, belt or separate top can change the look and fit. Bring the pieces worn with the gown, and ask which accessories are relevant. If a veil or sleeve attaches to the dress, explain how. Keep all items listed when arranging handover or collection.

04A clear next step

Bring the questions and dates as well.

Note where the gown pulls, gaps, shifts or feels long. List the design details you want to keep and any work already done. Give the wedding date and earliest collection deadline. Ask about scope, quote and fitting stages instead of leaving those points until the dress is handed over.

  • The undergarments you intend to wear
  • The wedding date and collection deadline
  • Details of earlier alterations or repairs
  • A short list of fit concerns and design priorities

A few things to know

Questions about the guide.

These answers explain the process and limits. Details for your own outfit must be confirmed after assessment.

What if I have not chosen my shoes?

Tell the fitter before a final hem length is agreed. Ask which parts of the assessment can proceed and which may need to wait for the actual shoes.

Should I bring shapewear?

Bring it if you plan to wear it with the gown. The fitting should reflect the layers beneath the dress, not a different outfit choice.

Can someone come with me?

Ask about attendance when the appointment is confirmed. Do not assume there is space for a group at every fitting.

Do I need every accessory?

Ask which pieces affect the fit or attach to the gown. Separate skirts, belts and similar items can be important even if a decorative accessory is not.

Should I bring a list of changes?

Yes, but describe the concerns rather than assume the technical fix. Mark which changes are essential and which are optional design ideas.
